Biography

Dr. Melanie L. Hafford, MD,FACS is a board certified bariatric and minimally invasive surgeon. Growing up outside of Atlanta, Georgia, her interests in medicine and public health were cultivated at Emory University and the Medical College of Georgia. Her contributions to addressing obesity, the fastest growing health crises in America, began during a competitive internship at the Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, DC. After completion of her surgical residency at UT Southwestern, she pursued specialty training in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery at the Methodist Hospital in Houston, making her an expert in the comprehensive care of bariatric patients. Dr. Hafford’s practice includes bariatric surgery (laparoscopic gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, and revisions), laparoscopic foregut surgery (Nissen fundoplication and hiatal hernia repair), advanced upper endoscopy, and minimally invasive general surgery (hernias, cholecystectomy, splenectomy, etc). Nationally, Dr. Hafford is an active member in the Society of American and Gastrointestinal Surgeons (SAGES) and the American societ of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons (ASMBS), and she is a fellow in the American College of Surgeons.
