Biography

I have been born in Genoa, Italy, on March 25th, 1973, and have attended the German School in Genoa (Deutsche Schule Genua). I graduated from University of Genoa School of Medicine in 1998, with an MD thesis entitled "Recent physiologic acquisitions and new strategies of use of biliopancreatic diversion in Obesity". I then enrolled in the General Surgery residency program, University of Genoa School of Medicine in 1998, under the supervision of Professor Nicola Scopinaro. During my training, I have focused primarily on digestive surgery, with special emphasis on bariatric surgery. I have been appointed Assistant Professor of Surgery at University of Genoa School of Medicine in 2004, and Associate Professor of Surgery in 2019, and have been staff surgeon at the Surgical Department, University of Genoa School of Medicine, since July 2005. My research interests focus primarily on bariatric surgery, particularly in type 2 diabetic patients with low BMI.
