Biography

Dr Stefanidis is a professor of surgery with tenure, the Vice Chair of education, and Chief of minimally invasive and bariatric surgery of the department of surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine. He directs clinical outcome research for his section and education and simulation research for the department.

At the national level, he serves as chair of the ASMBS research committee, is president-elect of the Association for Surgical Education, serves on the board of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), and the Institute for Surgical Excellence.

He has a strong interest in improving patient outcomes after bariatric surgery, has obtained several competitive research grants, and published over 200 peer-reviewed papers and several book chapters.
