  • Retired from active performance of bariatric surgery 2012 but continued active involvement in research and coverage issues in bariatric surgery.

  • Chair of the NIH Funded Longitudinal Assessment of Bariatric Surgery (LABS).

  • Present research ongoing by the team at OHSU includes mechanisms of protection from obesity related cancers by bariatric surgery, effect of essential amino acids supplementation on protein metabolism, energy expenditure and metabolic adaptation to weight loss, NAFLD modeled prediction of NASH, other issues related to NAFLD, continued studies of the long term metabolic aspects of T2DM.
