Biography

Janelle Wilder Coughlin, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist and Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. She is also the Director of the Obesity Behavioral Medicine Program and Associate Director of the Center for Behavior and Health at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Coughlin has provided behavioral health services for the Johns Hopkins Center for Bariatric Surgery since 2008. She has also been an active member of ASMBS since that time and has served on the Behavioral Health and Integrated Health Education Committees for this organization.

She is currently the Director of the Masters in Behavioral Health Committee and Associate Editor for SOARD. In addition to her work in bariatric surgery, she has served as behavioral expert on several influential, large-scale, NIH-funded obesity trials. She has also been a longstanding Investigator for the Johns Hopkins Eating Disorders Program research team, which is responsible for conducting research on psychosocial and biological aspects of eating behaviors.
