Biography

Dr. Victoria Gershuni graduated from General Surgery Residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in June 2021 and is currently the Advanced GI/ Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellows at Washington University in St. Louis. During her surgical training, she spent two dedicated years completing her Master of Science in Translational Research in the lab of Dr. Gary Wu.

Her research thesis focused on the relationship between nutrition/diet, the microbiome, and gut-derived metabolites, and how their interaction impacts host physiology and metabolism. In recognition of her work in the lab, Dr. Gershuni was awarded the 2019 Jonathan E. Rhoads Resident Research Award from the Department of Surgery.

In 2018, Dr. Gershuni completed a Fellowship in Clinical Nutrition through the Nestle Nutrition Institute and is board-eligible for the National Board of Physician Nutrition Specialists. Prior to starting at Penn, she graduated from the University of Southern California with a BS in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (2008) and a MS in Global Medicine (2009).

She then went on to receive her MD from Washington University in St. Louis, School of Medicine (2014), where she received the Louis and Dorothy Kovitz Senior Prize in Surgery. Upon completion of fellowship, Dr. Gershuni plans to specialize in Minimally Invasive GI/Foregut and Metabolic Surgery with a continued research focus on diet and the microbiome.
