Biography

I was born and raised in College Station, Texas – home of the Texas Aggies. I received an academic scholarship to Texas A&M University and ended up staying another four years for college. I decided to pursue the pre-med route and thanked my lucky stars when I pre-matched to McGovern Medical School in Houston. Moving to a new city was much needed at that point and I crossed paths with many wonderful, intelligent souls along the way.

As an artist, I appreciated the inherent visual nature of human anatomy, but also became interested in the deeper meaning of life and the medical humanities. In retrospect, I may have entered medical school with a partially closed mind, believing myself destined for surgery or emergency medicine. Subsequently, I applied for and matched into a general surgery program in Temple, Texas. Surgery can be an art form, but to be a surgeon – especially a female surgeon – there is a great deal more required than dexterity and a passion for anatomical landmarks.

The pandemic caused elective cases at our hospital to be cancelled and I found myself not missing the operating room. I decided to re-apply this ERAS 2022 cycle to diagnostic radiology. Currently, I am completing a research fellowship year at Baylor Scott and White made possible by the Glen E. and Rita K. Roney Endowed Chair in Surgery.
