Biography
I am an assistant professor of surgery and a board certified general surgeon at Banner University Medical Center Phoenix. I am a fellowship trained bariatric surgeon and MBSAQIP medical director for our program. My interests include advancement of obesity care through advocacy as well as advancement of knowledge of physiology of obesity. I am the site director for the Bariatric Surgery rotation for the University of Arizona Phoenix School of Medicine.
I earned my medical degree at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine and completed Surgical Residency at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center. I then completed a Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Bariatric Surgery at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Oakland, CA and prior to coming to Banner I was a private practice Bariatric Surgeon in Tucson, AZ for three years.
I am a fellow of the American College of Surgeons as well as the ASMBS and a member of SAGES. I am a member of the Health Policy and Advocacy committee as well as the Intimate Partner Violence Taskforce for the ACS. I am the star for advocacy in the state of AZ for our local chapter of ASMBS as well as serving on the communications committee for ASMBS.
