Description:

Presented by experienced integrated health team members within the specialty of bariatric surgery, this course offers information and guidance for the basic and safe care of bariatric surgery patients within a Bariatric Surgery Program. Target audience: Nurses who are new to the specialty or who have worked in the specialty of bariatric surgery for less than 2 years.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Attendees will understand the importance of developing a patient-centered program for the treatment of obesity
  2. Attendees will be able to articulate the essential components of a comprehensive care pathway
  3. Attendees will gain understanding of the nutritional needs of the bariatric surgery patient
  4. Attendees will be able to clearly define the role of the bariatric surgery Program Coordinator
  5. Attendees will identify opportunities to increase patient safety
  6. Attendees will gain insight into the significance of long-term follow-up.
