Description:
Presented by experienced integrated health team members within the specialty of bariatric surgery, this course offers information and guidance for the basic and safe care of bariatric surgery patients within a Bariatric Surgery Program. Target audience: Nurses who are new to the specialty or who have worked in the specialty of bariatric surgery for less than 2 years.
Learning Objectives:
- Attendees will understand the importance of developing a patient-centered program for the treatment of obesity
- Attendees will be able to articulate the essential components of a comprehensive care pathway
- Attendees will gain understanding of the nutritional needs of the bariatric surgery patient
- Attendees will be able to clearly define the role of the bariatric surgery Program Coordinator
- Attendees will identify opportunities to increase patient safety
- Attendees will gain insight into the significance of long-term follow-up.
